About

I design interfaces that hold up under real-world use.

Three or four engagements a year. Mostly teams where the design bar has slipped, or where the problem has outgrown the existing tools. I write case studies because the shape of the work matters as much as the outcome.

I work as a contract principal designer. Engagements run eight to twenty-four weeks. I lead the research, own the design, and write the documentation. Most projects sit with me and one or two engineers on the client side, plus a researcher when the question warrants it.

My background is in enterprise tools. The projects that have taught me the most are the ones where the users did not have a choice about using the software: claims adjusters, school staff, bus riders. Designing for that audience is an exercise in taking their time seriously. Every screen is a tax on someone who is already busy. I try to keep the tax low.

I live in Boston. I read more than I publish. I show up to every engagement with questions, a pen, and a willingness to be wrong in public until the work is right.
